I can relate!
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I subbed for six years. I am a full-time teacher now, so I can relate very well to what you are talking about. My current assignment is fifth grade. They don't require as much practice, I don't think, in getting down procedures. I believe that first grade does require much more time on teaching and modeling procedures.

I think things are naturally more chaotic for a sub. We don't know the routines and procedures as well as the regular teacher and the kids. Subs aren't there every day to watch to see what actually goes on in the classroom, so it's really impossible to duplicate the teacher's day exactly. Sometimes, too, first graders feel so much more "lost" without their regular teacher.
