I can relate

Clip to ScrapBook
I love teaching the little ones. I think something happens between the 1st grade year and the 2nd grade. The kids are completely different. by first grade they are still absorbing every little tidbit.
I subbed in a class
the other day for a wonderful group of Kindergarteners and started to walk away pleased with myself. Then I realized just how litte we did throughout the day. But then I realized that is about right for any normal kindergarten class. They learn quiet a bit but do what seems like so little. They are still working on some of the most basic skills.
It is difficult for little ones to
not talk and such while they work. I usually remind them that Ok if you aren't at least this far along then you should be doing less talking and more working. It works ok but you will still have some that are dragging their feet because they simply don't want to do the work.
So really to answer your question, yes in my experience the littler ones usually need more reminding about what they should be doing. They tend to lose sight more often. They say the average adult has only a 20 minute attention span. You can only imagine how difficult this is for the little ones that only have a fraction of that.
