"Just A Sub", too
By Wendi

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way at times. I once went into a book store to buy a book about teaching. The cashier asked me if I was a teacher, and I replied that I was. She asked which grades
I taught, and I smiled and said "K-6, I am a substitute teacher." Her facial expression changed, and she said "Oh" She actually went to get her manager. The manager again asked me all of the same questions, and I gave the same answers. Apparantly, the bookstore gives 10% off purchases to teachers, and they didn't feel that I qualified because I was "a sub". I politely explained that I
have a certificate to teach in my state, I just didn't have my own classroom. The manager finally relented! I don't go there anymore.
I always make a mental note of any schools who tell me I'm "just a sub". Then I know that I wouldn't want to be hired there, anyhow.
