unethical to ask?
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I am a full-time teacher now, but I have also been a substitute. I can from both sides of the desk, so to speak.

As a substitute, I know I would not have hesitated to ask for help from another teacher if a lesson plan
did not make sense to me. As a full-time teacher, I would hope that my sub would do the same.

As for pay, remember--those of you in the U.S.A--that although Canada uses a dollar, their money--therefore their salary structure--is quite different from ours. I spent some time in Canada during the summer. When I heard that a motel was $180, I initially thought, "Yikees!" However,

when you figure that we would deduct that cost by about 60%, you will find that the cost is more in line with what we are accustomed to paying here. The $180 cost is normal to those in Canada. They would pay the $180 and think of it in the same way we do $72. So a substitute teacher who lives in Canada who is making what you think is a fortune, is actually making a great deal less than you think when you equate it to U. S. dollars and the cost of living in the U. S.
