good behavior rewards
By Nancy

Clip to ScrapBook
I sub primarily in the same district, and know pretty much what is allowed and what is not. Anyhow, bonus recess, whether indoor or outdoor is a great bonus for good behavior. If my class is exceptionally good, I'll meet
them at the end of recess and allow an extra 5 minutes or so of freetime, and they really work hard for it. Of course, check with the powers that be, this may be frowned on in other schools. Also, it doesn't have to be outside fun. Inside games are also a pretty good treat, even if it is for a mere 5 or 10 minutes. My students love playing spelling games with their spelling words ("sparkle",
"apple pie", etc.), and while they think its "fun time", it really does help them learn their spelling words and they have to be quiet in order to hear the words being spelled. I don't take candy treats, but a lot of teacher's use them regularly in their classrooms, and if they do, I'll use them as well.
