"I use rewards"

I agree...bribes work on a short term basis, which is usually the case with subbing. I bought some inexpense award certificates at Office Max. You can also make these on your computer. They are 8 1/2 x 11 and colorful. Near the end of the day, if the class has been good (or moderately good!) I fill in the certificate with the class name and write "For good behavior while (the regular teacher's name) was away" and post it on the bulletin board. I've used this through the sixth grade and children and teachers love it. Word gets around a school quickly and the next class looks forward to the "award".
