no bells at middle school
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree that middle schools need bells. I am an elementary school teacher now, but I have worked in middle school. The kids need a definite signal as to when to be in class and when to leave class.
I often faced the problem
of kids coming to class late. Our principal used to schedule something called "lock-out," which meant that it was announced over the intercom that we were to lock our doors so that kids couldn't get in. If they weren't in at class at that time, they were to report to the cafeteria to receive a detention. This could have been avoided if they simply had bells.

I did work as a

sub in a middle school which had bells! This was the only middle school where I ever worked that did. At precisely 9:37, the electronic tone sounded, and every single kid in the building headed for his/her next class. What a smooth operation!

In my opinion, school administrators where they don't have bells should visit those which do. They will see a dramatic difference in on-time arrival.
