There is always the chance that you may run into an less-than-prepared teacher when you sub...so you might want to think of putting together a "bag of tricks" to take with you whenever you sub. HEre's some ideas
-fun but thoughtful writing ideas/assignments -short 5-minute fillers -Mad Libs (Kids LOVE these and they're educational still for parts of speech!) -color by number (for younger kids) -kids magazines -fun stories to read aloud (get a good collection/book) -hangman, math/spelling basketball, around the world, bingo, quizmo, etc... There are TONS of things you can put together and put in a bag to take with you for days like this or for time-fillers. If you sub for many grade levels..try to get a few good things for each grade level. When you sub for a good teacher who may have left ideas like this for you...get a copy of any activities that you could use in the future for yourself. There are lots of free reproducibles on the internet...if you can get a book or find them out there..the schools should let you make copies for the class you're subbing for that day. Hope these ideas help!
