Most leave lesson plans
By Mariella

Clip to ScrapBook
Jen, you'll probably find that most teachers leave lesson plans - most experienced teachers and many new ones who are very organized have their lessons planned in detail quite a few days in advance. As a sub, your best bet
is to follow the plan as much as possible. Of course, there will be times when a teacher has been called away in an emergency (illness, family crisis, etc.) and hasn't left a plan or has her plan book at home. For those times, it's a good idea to have a grab bag of activities - a story to read with some related activities (I have some sheets I've made up based on a few stories that
I like and I carry a copy or 2 with me and copy at the school if needed). There are so many sites on the internet with really wonderful resources - colouring sheets, dot-to-dot, etc. related to different subjects or times of year. I don't know the trick to posting links to other sites but if you type in "the teacher's desk" you'll find some great games that you can turn into flash cards (either by hand or using a computer if you have better computer skills than I do). The internet is simply a wonderful resource for all sorts of activities that you can carry with you to use in an emergency.
