looking for a job
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, Myia,

It could well be that you are doing absolutely nothing wrong. What you need to do is check out your districts where you want to work and find out from somebody on the inside how they get in. I was interested
in working for a particular district where I subbed many years ago. I asked an insider what she did to get a job. Her response was to "bug them and bug" them. That advice might not work with all districts, so you may want to check it out before you try something like this.

It could also be that you have so many applicants in your district. Some areas have more applications than

they know what to do with. They could never offer a position to each individual who applies.

Another reason is politics. I found out very early in the game that you had to know somebody to get in. If you were a daughter or son of somebody in the school district, then you were a virtual "shoo-in." If you went to the school where you applied, you also were guaranteed a job. Subbing helps you get to know people, for sure, and many districts do hire from their sub pool once they get to know you. Sometimes it just takes awhile.

I wish you luck. If all else fails, and you are willing to relocate, this is a good option for getting a teaching job. Some areas in the country are begging for teachers.
