It's hard to say, Cecilia

Will you be meeting the sub taking your place? If so, you'll probably have a fairly good idea of how experienced or inexperienced this person is (with teaching and with teaching your grade). Much may also depend on what
the regulations are in your board or district - some have stringent rules about how much work must be left and what the absent teacher's responsibilities are. I think 2 weeks of detailed plans plus an outline of where to go from there (basic theme ideas, types of materials and techniques you've used for various areas, where materials can be found (your reference books and such) should
be enough but, then again, if your principal is adamant, you may just have to give him or her what is being asked. Chances are that the first week or 2 will go more slowly for your replacement (getting to know the students and the routines and what are realistic goals and expectations to push towards does slow down EVERY aspect of the day) but after that, the sub will probably start covering material almost as quickly as you would. If you are bound by your principal to leave the full 6 weeks of work, let the sub know if you have a problem with him or her changing what you've left or using her own "stuff" and doing it her way. Some teachers are fine with a sub taking over while others do want the lesson plans adhered to pretty closely. My best advice - if at all possible, try to meet with the person who will be replacing you - perhaps even have him or her spend a day with you in the classroom! And enjoy the baby and your leave - it will be over all too quickly! Best of luck.
