We do something similar...

Clip to ScrapBook
at our school: anytime a teacher sees a child doing something good or making a good choice or being helpful, we give the child a red ticket, on which they write their name and class section # on the back. Then they take their ticket to the office, where there is a jar for each grade level. Every Friday, the principal draws one ticket from each grade level's jar, and that student is a "Longhorn of the week." They get a ribbon to wear all day and their picture is hung in the hallway be the office. They might also get a pencil, not sure. Anyway, the kids like it. :p
