Grades
By cheri

Clip to ScrapBook
I do not take a lot of grades, because if a student started out poorly, it is very hard for them to bring that grade up later on ( even if they start getting 100s on their papers). I've had students who begin to think they
can't get good grades because of this.

I also agree with previous posters about comments. Kids seem to pay attention to comments and work harder because of them. Some kids don't even understand what grades actually mean. I heard this one a few weeks ago from a capable enough student: "Woo hoo! I got a 71% on my test!!!!" She thought that since she passed, she was doing great!

I never tell my kids what I am going to grade and what I am going to just look over. I remind them they always have to do their best, because they do not get many grades.
