beginning sub
By Sharon

Clip to ScrapBook
My advice to you is not to buy any reproducible books unless you are a long-term substitute. I have subbed for six years and have rarely, if ever, supplemented the teacher's plans. In fact, there are those teachers who would not want you to. Sub for the grade levels you wish to sub for, but try to follow the teacher's plans to the letter.

As far as being called: My first few months of subbing were for breaking the ice. The sub callers didn't know me, so they didn't call me as much as the others. It won't take long before they call you on a regular basis. Sub callers love subs who always say "yes!" Try not to turn them down in the beginning, so that they think of you as reliable.
