parapro
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Definitely! I live in NC, and in our county's school district a lot of parapros are hired to work in classrooms. In fact, every teacher from grades K-3 has a parapro (assistant) in the classroom with him/her. The parapros
help teachers with traditional classroom chores and even with instruction. I, myself, had a parapro this past year who took on a small reading group (my slowest readers and behavior problems) a couple of days a week so that they could be more focused. She also helped tutor those same kids in math at the end of the school day. She is finishing up on her college degree to become a
teacher. I have found that the only thing that usually separates a parapro from the teacher in terms of skill level is the teaching certificate/license. Teachers often trust the judgment of their parapros in terms of decision making. You will be a valuble asset to your teacher!
