what time? By Carolyn

1. They may call you in the evening anywhere between 6:00 and 10:00. The latest I was called in the evening was usually 9:30. As the last poster said, they can call you as early as 5:30, depending upon the starting time| of the school in which you will work. I usually knew I wasn't working that day if I didn't receive a call by 6:30 in the morning. What's nice is when they book you in advance. You can mark your calendar and know where and when you were going up to two months in advance. It's also nice when you are working for a teacher who has well-laid-out plans and is out for several days. 2. | | If the teacher didn't leave a plan, contact your building administrators immediately. It is the responsibility of the teacher to leave lesson plans which are descriptive enough for you to follow. 3. You will try various grades as a sub, but eventually you will work only with the grades you feel most comfortable with. Some subs will only work below grade 4. Others won't work in middle school. You will make the choice, in the long run, where you want to work. 4. Sticking with one or two subjects depends upon your area of certification. If you are certified in secondary English, you may feel most comfortable working in English. However, it wouldn't be practical to insist that you only be called for English. There just isn't enough work to be limited to one subject. Also, the sub callers want you to be flexible, at a moment's notice, to take anything they have to offer.
