I minored in Reading Instruction By mt

in college, and WTW WAS Reading 300-something. It was the textbook, the lesson....we even made a bunch of the games. Beyond that, I'm not aware that there is any formal training for this. I might be wrong, but I don't know of any. The books are pretty self-explanatory.
You can get as involved in this as you like. I use it in the sixth grade and like it. It's pretty labor-intensive to set up (you need copies of all those sorts! and you have to model a few for the kids, and test everyone and place them on the continuum) but once it's set up and everyone is trained, it goes very easily and smoothly. | |
You also have to decide how/if to grade the sorts. I have my kids keep a word study notebook, but you don't have to. I'm debating whether to use the notebook next year. I have 130 kids, and about 20% of them lose everything they touch.
