I minored in Reading Instruction
By mt

Clip to ScrapBook
in college, and WTW WAS Reading 300-something. It was the textbook, the lesson....we even made a bunch of the games. Beyond that, I'm not aware that there is any formal training for this. I might be wrong, but I don't
know of any. The books are pretty self-explanatory.

You can get as involved in this as you like. I use it in the sixth grade and like it. It's pretty labor-intensive to set up (you need copies of all those sorts! and you have to model a few for the kids, and test everyone and place them on the continuum) but once it's set up and everyone is trained, it goes very easily and smoothly.

You also have to decide how/if to grade the sorts. I have my kids keep a word study notebook, but you don't have to. I'm debating whether to use the notebook next year. I have 130 kids, and about 20% of them lose everything they touch.
