Oh, how I wish I could do it all over again!

Clip to ScrapBook
:o

It was Bertie, a first grade teacher in Canada on January 1, who wrote:

"Reading aloud exercises the frontal cortex of the brain and involves higher functions than reading silently, so reading to/with
a partner would be more valuable to brain development. I got this information from reading a list of activities designed to activate and exercise your brain and make it "younger" (more flexible, agile, active). It also mentions math speed work, sudoku and other puzzles, mapwork, & memorization games (concentration, etc)" (no source cited)

:oI have been really pushing the paired reading
over the daily sustained independent reading ~ based on this January post and no definitive opinions otherwise (until tonight). '

:mad:I am scared out of my head that students are going to do poorly on the state tests ~ even though we have done all that I could think of to make progress.

:cool:Based on what I'm seeing here, I think that I should have pushed the independent reading instead. Also, I'm reading Regie Routman's Reading Essentials and (so far) she seems to support this emphasis too. (It's a good book ~ check it out!).

:rolleyes:I guess you learn as you go ~ I just wish I hadn't gone so far before learning!

:)Thanks for the help!

(I don't have that quote thing down either!)
