Clip to ScrapBook
I raised my kids on a farm. As a parent I know you end up spending more time keeping them busy. You say you live far out in the country, but is there a public library you could travel to once a week. Libraries have wonderful
things these days that can be lent out-great books, dvd's, computer programs, etc..

Do you have internet access at home? You and he could pick a topic to explore and study? One summer my son and I did knights and another Abraham Lincoln.

How about teaching him to cook? I use to let my kids each plan and cook one meal a week with my assistance. They had to look through
recipe books, get my approval on the menu, plan the grocery list, help buy the groceries, prepare the meal, and then clean up afterwards. This took a huge amount of time and effort on their part, and they loved to cook.

Maybe teach him a craft. My son liked woodburning. Kits are not very expensive and he can probably find scraps of wood around to practice and work on.

Some kids like models which aren't too expensive. My husband also used to put jigsaw puzzles together with my kids. My son also loved magic tricks. The library will have books of them and the internet will also have information.

What about learning different card games with him or even teaching many different ways to play solitare?

Can you have animals? Chicks are cheap to buy (You can even get them mailed to you) and are a great project for kids. A few chickens are not very expensive to raise and really teach kids a lot about responsibility and life.
