Maybe teach him a craft. My son liked woodburning. Kits are not very expensive and he can probably find scraps of wood around to practice and work on. Some kids like models which aren't too expensive. My husband also used to put jigsaw puzzles together with my kids. My son also loved magic tricks. The library will have books of them and the internet will also have information. What about learning different card games with him or even teaching many different ways to play solitare? Can you have animals? Chicks are cheap to buy (You can even get them mailed to you) and are a great project for kids. A few chickens are not very expensive to raise and really teach kids a lot about responsibility and life.
