honestly, there are some i give more attention to. (they aren't all signed, but they come in a couple at a time and it's kind of hard to not know which is which....i also recognize handwriting.)

you have to have
somewhat thick skin to send stuff like this out.

i do state at the beginning of the year that i want to know if they have problems when they happen rather than waiting until the end of the year, so hopefully i don't get dumped on.

i don't usually get more than 25% back--oh well. some things that i do as a teacher, i would kill to have my kids' teachers do, but no luck.
i would definitely send back surveys!

in past years, i've kept my Monday newsletter and certain parts of it because of the positive response. i've tried to change my personality according to feedback i've received. there are certain things (more note-taking, more writing) that i've tried to implement due to responses. i figure as long as i have an equal balance of "too much homework" and "not enough homework", i'm okay! :p

i did have one survey returned years ago that was really weird: said that it was not okay to tell a class to "shut up". um, yeah, it's not....not sure where she got that i said that (all i could think of was a video that we watched of Milton Creigh--district-wide, where he said it to the audience) and she also complained about a novel we read---it was a difficult book to understand when she was a kid and still is. (hmmmm...The Phantom Tollbooth---loved by all my students every year---i made sure to make a note that it was voted favorite novel by my class in the last newsletter). this same woman also complained that i had learning fairs during the school day because some parents couldn't make it. (i alternated the times from AM to PM and changed the days of the week....yah, not many parents made them--they were for the kids, but i like to invite parents to anything i think they might be interested in seeing.) so i tossed that one out.

the survey used to read "what did i do that you didn't like?" i decided to soften that to "suggestions for next year"--i think it sounds nicer.

i keep the really nice ones for my Sunshine Folder. (cards, nice comments, etc for those days when you need a pick-me-up)
