Re: Catholic schools
By caroleu

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught in Catholic schools for 26 years, and my three children all went to Catholic schools from K through high school. They received an excellent education, scored well on all nationally-normed tests, and earned
scholarships to college. Academic excellence was encouraged but the school atmosphere was not competitive.

The reasons that Catholic schools are less expensive than other private schools:
(1) They are partially supported by their parishes.
(2) They have larger classes than other private schools. (We typically have 30 in a class.)
(3) They have lower teacher salaries
- but dedicated teachers.

This is done to keep the costs affordable for Catholic families who want their children to have a Catholic education. You don't have to be Catholic to go to a Catholic school. Depending on your area and the number of Catholic families, it may be easy or difficult to get in because first priority in admissions is usually given to siblings and parish families.

It is definitely worth your while to look at the Catholic school in your area to see if it meets your needs.
