I've never taught 1st so I'm no help there, but I DO teach 3rd and I love it!!!! Be encouraged in knowing your students will be more independent, and they will still love you like the 1st graders do. You'll also have the advantage of knowing some of your former students!

Crazy? Not at all - change can be a good thing. I've taught 4 different grade levels in my 8 years of teaching, and it's always been a welcome change - although I wasn't so sure when it was first happening (like you feel now).

The other good thing is that you're finding out now, so you have all summer to plan. You'll start getting excited about it before you know it! :)
