Beckie, I do much the same thing
By Mariella

Clip to ScrapBook
I frequently make a quick chart, as I'm doing the attendance or just make a quick mental note of the names of the trouble makers (always amazes me how easy they are to spot in the first 30 seconds of class!). But the name cards were just so nice and handy and right there on each child's desk (no need to keep running for that seating plan sheet). It also provided some nice "get to know you" opportunity - the students had drawn or otherwise decorated their name cards to reflect their personalities, so I could ask them why they'd put certain things on their name cards and ask them questions about themselves! In one class, I even made one myself during recess and drew on things that were important to me!
