Clip to ScrapBook
The 2 biggest things for us in 4th grade, when I taught it a few years ago, were the state writing test and studying our state. I would get a map of the US and world, as well as a good resource for teaching writing. I like
the book "Blowing Away the State Writing Assessment". It gave great samples of good and bad writing. I put them on transparencies to help teach.

Make sure you know/print the state objectives and see what resources you'll need. A good resource is Mailbox Superbook for Grade 4. It'll give you "beginning of the year" suggestions, sub ideas, different academic ideas, etc...

If you can, talk to another 4th grade teacher on your team, to get the scoop on how your school handles everything (lunch, duty schedules, funds for classroom, etc...).

Congrats on your job! :)
