Reading only
By act56

Clip to ScrapBook
We do the Reading program only. The students read a
book from the list (there are hundreds of books on the list)
and then take a test. They get points for the test
depending on how well they did.
Books
have different point values based on their size.
They usually start with .5 pts. We give prizes at
every 10 points. The lower grades may do pencils or
something at 5 pts. We also have point clubs where the
students get their pictures taken at 25 points and it
is put up on the cafeteria wall. When they reach 50 pts,
75, 100, etc. their picture gets moved to
the new
"___ point club".
It is a good program and does encourage reading. There
are some down sides to it also. It can become highly
competitive (even with the teachers). I don't like that
students can get prizes and such even though they are
failing the tests. EXAMPLE- a test on a 1 point book may
have 10 questions. If they only get 5 right, they will still
get .4 or .5 points. Eventually that adds up.
Overall, I still do like it.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helped.
