I would definitely recommend trying to apply in other districts, don't limit yourself to one. I subbed in one district for the past 2 years. When it came time for me to look for a full time job, I thought I had an excellent chance because I had excellent references within the district and knew they had openings. I was interviewed but then received a form letter a week later saying they couldn't offer me a job at this time. After talking to a few other subs who had interviewed, it seems that they had all been given the same letter with no explanation. I then applied in other local districts. I was interviewed and hired by the first district that called. I will be teaching kindergarten next year.
