Same Problem

I just had the same problem. My camcorder has the little tapes though so I'm not sure if this will work for you. I went to Best Buy and bought something called Dazzle. Basically on one end it has a USB and on the other I plug in the audio/visual cords (the red, yellow, and white cord) then I push play on the camcorder and record on the computer and I'm able to have a video file. I'd go to Best Buy or somewhere similar and ask them for help!
