So students can be retained based on one test? We do not retain students just because they don't pass the state test (ISTEP). It seems a bit harsh. What if they had a bad day (retakes could help this) or are bad test takers?

My 4th grade daughter failed the Language Arts portion last year due to "spacing out" and not finishing. She was well into the pass zone this year and just below pass plus.

Are you kids extremely nervous? Do they know if they fail they will not go on to the next grade? It seems like a lot of pressure for children :(
