Scholastic Guided Reading Boxes
By msharkey

Clip to ScrapBook
They have about 10 titles (6 per title)

There are different boxes to choose from. Initially, they only had fictional books. Then they offered Non Fiction books. Now, they're offerring content area boxes.

They
range in levels from A-P (that I know of). I teach first and the range is really important.

Another great thing about this "series" is that it comes with "cards" of suggestions of ideas for Pre, During, and Post Reading activities as well as some writing response ideas. The card also has a brief synopsis of the story, the level, and the number of words. It also gives some ideas
of strategies you can work on with that book. I did use the cards religiously at first but honestly, now, I usually just bring one book home with me over the weekend and type out one of my own "unit plan" kind of outline for myself (and any other person ;) that might come into my room looking for plans)

And lastly, all the books are actual literature - not publisher created. These are actual books/series children can find in stores, libraries. I find some published boxed sets lack "kid appeal" and can be boring and stale. These really aren't.

And , no, I don't work for scholastic.

I have added selected books from Rigby and Newbridge and added them to my leveled boxes during those years between new boxes to add more content and non fiction on my own. I've been using them for about 11 years now (adding as the years go on). I cannot imagine teaching guided reading without it.

I do have to warn that they are a bit pricey (about $250ish a box).

I hope this was helpful for you,
Shark:s)
