I have to second the vote for Rigby. They come with lessons too and are high-quality. My favorite by far are from National Geographic. They have a series called Window on Literacy that you can get in sets that focus on science or social studies. They are excellent for working on nonfiction and have awesome pictures and content. My kids love them too. I have also ordered sets from Scholastic, because many of them are AR books and in 2nd grade AR is big (whether I like it or not ;)) so I like to use those in groups and have them take a test when we are finished. It's also a good way for those low kids to get a few points here and there.
