Don't give up -

Listen to what all the other teachers have said. They are right. It is who you know. Then, what you know. The way I got my first job went like this:
I went and interviewed several times. One principal really liked me and
told me that he was going to recommend me for his 2nd grade position. He did recommend me but was overruled. The board member's niece needed a job. The principal called me and was very apologetic. He also said that I would get the next job. I don't know what went on at that meeting but I did get an even better job. The job was for a principal that had been my advanced biology teacher.

Go ahead and get your foot in the door. Substitute and do a jam bang up job. Leave the kids smarter, the work graded, and the room neat. It won't be long until you have left a positive impression and doors will open! :s)
