Clip to ScrapBook
We had to have a meeting with the parents by the first of April telling them that their child would be going to the retention comittee and why. Some things I would let them know are: maturity level, test scores, socialization concerns?, basic skills that are missing, and observaitons from other teachers. If you are higher than a 3rd grade teacher, I don't think I would even try because it will do more harm than good especially to self-esteem.

I would write up the letter and then have a veteran teacher or your admin look at it for advise before sending home.

Good luck! This is my 10th year teaching only the 2nd time I have ever even thought about retention. It's a tough decision but go with your gut.
