We have a study hall during recess. By linda2671

If a student doesn't do their work in class, they go to study hall to finish it. I usually have 5 or 6 kids who go to study hall during recess during the first quarter. By the end of the 2nd quarter, I rarely have anyone| who needs to go to study hall. Once the kids realize that they ARE going to be expected to do that work, they figure out a way to get it done on time. We have PE every day, where the kids get a REALLY good workout. I agree with the poster that said that recess is a privilege, not a right. If the powers that be told us we couldn't take away recess in order to make sure kids got their work | | done, I really believe the kids would suffer from that decision. They need to develop a good work ethic. When we are told that we can't take recess away, that contributes to a sense of entitlement that is a big problem in a lot of schools today. Parents who complain about kids not getting to go to recess, or complain because their kids are made to walk as a punishment for bad behavior, are creating an impossible situation in the classroom. What they don't realize is that they will pay the price for this as their kids get older. Kids who grow up with a sense of entitlement, or with no boundaries make life miserable for their parents long past elementary school.
