Parents may not want to hear this but . . . for kids that don't want to read, it's not a bad thing to read to them. Perhaps they can both read the same book and meet to talk about it. Watch the movie after they finish it.| It's worked for me and my son. I chose titles that he'd be interested in and at night we'd read and he'd love it! We still do it because it's a really special time for us. He never turns down the opportunity to be read to. If I can find the movie, we watch it. Books on tape in the car are another thing we use. We've latched on to Molly Moon series now. He asks to bring it inside | | and listen to it even. There's also a book club for kids in my neighborhood at a public place that will read Around the World in 80 days and then meet several times to discuss and have a party and movie at the end. Last year they read Treasure Island. Reluctant readers may need magazines or newspapers. They shouldn't be restricted to books.
