My principal didn't tell me, though, until 2 wks AFTER school began...so I left my 3rd graders CRYING, and received Kindergarteners CRYING
You need to be able to rely on your other Kindergarten teachers. Hopefully, they'll have the curriculum / plans that you can go by. THe biggest thing I had to get used to was zipping up pants wiping noses reminding the kids to close the door when they're in the restroom explaining WHY we have 'community supplies' and trying to keep them from CRYING when they put their OWN scissors in the can trying to understand WHY the special ed. dept won't even come and OBSERVE a child who I think could benefit from Special Services--- (had an autistic child who the district did NOT want to service) arg... dealing with parents who can't accept that their child needs another year of Kindergarten in order to be successful in 1st grade teaching them to READ---jeez...some of them just weren't developmentally READYOther than that, it was the most FUN year I'd ever had... hahaha I could make up songs on the "fly" and they would LOVE them... I went on more field trips than EVER that year. I could read stories aloud and add silly voices, and they would actually be scared, worried, surprised, tickled or mad...whatever the story called for. :) Kindergarten is challenging, for SURE, but it's great! I'd go in a Heartbeat if I got the chance!! Have a great year, and thank your Lucky Stars that you know NOW and NOT after school begins in the Fall. :) :)Kelly:)
