We have 30 minutes everyday after lunch. They have P.E. for 40 minutes on a 3-day rotation schedule so some weeks it's once, some it's twice. We sometimes take them out for an extra 15-20 minutes in the afternoon if there
is time, and that is at the teacher's discretion.

At my son's school they stop having recess in 5th and 6th grade. I don't care how old they are, I think they need a brain break! I sent some research to his teachers and the principal (along with other parents), but they won't change it. They did switch to having a study hall for the last 30 minutes of the day and if they are

finished with all of their work they can go outside. However, most of them are loaded down with work and only 10-15 (out of the entire grade-level) usually make it out the door. :(
