I put all worksheets on their desk and paperclip a form on the top (which tells anything else they need to do, like reading a chapter, books to take home, etc...). They have the number of days they're absent to turn the work in. That's in the handbook, so they know that already. If they're absent for a test, I write their name on it and leave it on my desk so they get it when they return. I put a circle in my gradebook for any missing assignments - so I know to ask them for it. I keep any extra worksheets in a stack, and throw them away after everyone has turned them in. I used to keep them in a basket for work when a student has detention, but I rarely (thankfully!) have detention kids, so that was a waste of effort.
