Hi! I have used my STAR books for several years. The management is very easy for me. I have parents and students mark with a post it note when there is something for me to read in the binder. I do the same when I have a note. This way it acts like the flag on a mailbox. I make sure it sticks up way out of the notebook. The kids are trained to put their binders on my desk if the flag is sticking up. I also have the kids trained to add any loose notes to my basket that I keep homework in. I go through this basket fairly quickly in the morning so I know if there are any notes.
I do make my kids responsible for putting the stuff needed in their books. I give and repeat directions about what folder to put stuff in and what folder to take stuff out of. Responsiblilty has to begin somewhere. Most of them handle it without any problem. There are a few that have difficulty, but those are easy enough to manage.
Overall, I wouldn't give up my STAR books. My parents love them. My principal loves them. My students love them. I love them.
