I Feel Your Pain
By Philliesfan

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm really sick of centers, too. We use a program called Voyager, which has pretty good centers built in. However, my kids also have spring fever and they are not great at centers. They interrupt my group and are very
noisy. Yes, they have practiced, they know expectaions and I revisit "group tone" with them at least 3 times a week.

My problem is that the "district" will be visiting sometime in may or june and might not be thrilled if I'm not doing my small groups. I have about 6 kids who go out for intervention and that time of my centers is great. Of course, they are scheduled to go
out for half hour but are always picked up 15 minutes late. I guess it's better than nothing.

Could you maybe continue guided reading and give half the class seat work and the other half go to centers based on your theme ?

Do you have computers or a listening center ? I find that when I use them during my guided reading time it is more quiet . I have 5 computers in my room and I put 2 kids on a listening center and that does help.

Maybe the ones who complain can do something really booring like write sentences for the words in your basal or anthology. I've done that a few times and they can't stand it .
