I just read this book aloud to my fifth grade class. They loved it.
We didn't do this activity, but since it is a classic Home-Adventure-Home story, you could teach this format and have them write their own. I have done this in the past with Peter Rabbit, so you could share a few more short stories in this format before letting them do their own. We illustrated ours and shared them with the kindergarten. Everyone liked the project.
I set up a graphic organizer that was a circle with HOME at the top and boxes along the circle for them to plan out the adventures the main character has before returning home.
