You should definitely go with something that the students make or help make (similar to what RJean mentioned above). A few churches in our area do these auctions and those type of items go pretty high because all the families of the students usually bid and it can bring in a good amount. Some I remember are furniture painted and decorated by the kids, a grapevine tree with lights and ornaments made by the kids, and framed artwork. One class also had each student decorate a quilt square (or two) and then a member of the parish quilted it to help with the donation.
