I do

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a stamp that says "Please sign and return" with a line on the bottom. I assume the line is for the parent signature, but I write the date it is supposed to come back on the line (always the next school day). I only
require D+ and below tests and quizzes to come back with a parent signature. If I need to, I call home. If the kids don't bring it back the day it is supposed to I say, "Well, bring it back tomorrow or I will need to let your folks know to be looking for it."

I rarely have to call more than once or twice. Almost never twice with any one child. Once the kids know I will
call, they just bring the tests back with a parent signature. It is so much better for them than having the parent see it and have to sign it a couple weeks after the date I wrote on the paper.

I don't do this so the kids get in trouble. I just need the parent to not be surprised is all if the grade on the mid-term or report card is low. It is also an easy way to communicate with parents about low scores w/o calling home.
