I'm on sabbatical...

In our district, there are two ways to get a sabbatical...professional development or cultural awareness (?) or something like that. When you go on a professional development sabbatical, you have to take 2 college courses.
That is what many teachers who are having a baby do to get a semester off. If you have 3 years in the system, you can get a semester sabbatical...for 6 years, a full year sabbatical.
Right now, I am on sabbatical because to graduate from my Counseling program, I have to do a school counseling internship. With that, I had to write an essay to the school board, explaining what I am

doing, give them my transcripts proving that I am taking 2 college courses, and then after the semester, write another essay explaining what I accomplished.
I will tell you this, though...what your friend did about taking another job would not fly with our district. In fact, because I am on sabbatical and still getting 65% of my pay still, I am not allowed to have any other income coming in. I would have been able to get paid for my internship, but can't because I'm not allowed. They said it was because of people doing just like your friend did...getting paid for doing another job while collecting the sabbatical pay.
Sorry this is long-winded...but if you can do it, I say go for it!
