I live in Missouri, and it's a bit better here. There is a shortage of secondary science and math (when isn't there?) and there is talk of alternate certification for these areas. In our elementaries (3) there were 4 classroom openings. Two principals did preliminary interviews, about 10, and asked some (4 applicants in our case) to interview a second time with teachers present. In fact, we are desperate for a Reading Recovery teacher, only one applicant.
