This is prudent advice.

I have been a sub, and I am now a full-time teacher. When you are a sub, or you are a brand-new teacher in a school, it is prudent not to take any sides or create any issues which may be controversial. Too many people I have known have gotten fired from full-time jobs, and too many subs I have known have never been called back. Avoid gossip or complaining.
