Another Wisconsin Teacher
By ConnieWI

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach in Wisconsin too. We do not have milk during our "snack and sharing time," except in 4K and kindergarten. "Snack and sharing time" is done in the morning or afternoon, depending on the time the class has lunch. Milk
is served with hot lunch, and also purchased by some students for their cold lunch.

During this "snack and sharing time," students have assigned tasks like reading aloud a poem, spending one to two minutes sharing one thing from home, making an oral book report, doing a reader's theater presentation, etc. During the course of the week, each child shares once while the others
enjoy their snack. This allows students to practice oral language and presentations.

In my classroom, the snack is a fruit, vegetable, fruit juice, and/or vegetable juice. This varies according to the classroom, but it must be nutritious.

This post brought back great memories of my elementary days. We were allowed to order milk each day. It cost a nickel! In sixth grade, we delivered the milk to the other classrooms in my K-sixth grade school. We also had crossing guard duty. (Those were the days when kids walked to school!)
