This may sound silly and I'm sure you've already tried it, but have you scheduled a time (maybe over a casual lunch) to talk to her about it? Maybe you could build up a special lunch with the teacher thing and tell her that| all she has to bring is her lunch and of course, herself. Maybe just being honest with her and telling her how you, as the teacher feels when she acts that way. I'd ask her if there's a reason for her behavior. Is something going on inside our outside the classroom that you're not aware of that could be a contributing factor? Then, I'd tell her that together, you both need to brainstorm | | ways you could improve this situation for both you and her. Tell her you want third grade to be an exciting time in her life, not a time that she dreads, but you also want it to be an exciting time for you. Then I'd make a plan! I'd discuss what you or she could do to lessen or stop the behavior. Maybe you could even have a lunch or short meeting every week to have her and you reflect on the week and what has or hasn't gone well and why? what could you two have done to make it better next time?
I'd just really reinforce that you're in together, she's not alone, and if you both work at it...you can make up for the lost time! The teacher I work with did an activity with her class about "folds" in your heart that are created when your feelings get hurt. She used the story Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon to model how this happened to the character in the story and talked with the students about the folds in Molly's heart (and labeled/folded on an actual heart cut-out).
I hope this helped, like I said, I'm sure you've already done some of this...but they're just ideas! Let us know how it goes!
