Don't feel too badly. My husband is a high school teacher, full-time, and he complains about the very same things you are right now. He has girls who want to put on makeup right in the middle of class, kids who refuse to do as he asks (namely to put the makeup away). My belief is that parents today indulge their children too much. As a result, we have kids who are hardheaded and belligerent when they are asked to follow even simple directions. BTW: I teach fifth grade full-time, and my kids act this way, too. I think you will see this all the way through school.
