    noisy classroom

This is what I do at the elememtary level. First, I let the students know who is in charge. You are! Secondly, I let the students know that I am choosing somebody secretly to record names. At this level you will have several students wanting to help you out. Chooose somebody who is working quietly. Simply hand them a sheet of paper and ask them to write names down of those who are talking. If a check is by your name, then your name is sent to the regular teacher. I say secretly because if you have someone do it at the board, this cause un-needed and unwanted fights. Since the kids have no idea who is recording names and even if their names appear, they tend to behave better.

Also, if it is basically the whole class, it is impossible to single out all the bad students. are a couple of them behaving nicely? Put their names on the good list. Reward them somehow and leave their names with the regular teacher.

I have had a couple days where I had to punish the whole class. Children were constantly interrupting me while I was trying to teach a lesson. Finally, I dropped everything and told all the kids to clear their desks of everything. Then I give them an assignment like writing "I will pay attention in class" 100 times. The room is to be completely silent. Absolutely no passes wil be given at this time. Children will not go to the pencil sharpener.
    Hope this helps!
