One other "con" to consider - Fort Worth has some "inner city" type schools, and these are the ones that tend to get filled by "new hires" because those with years in the district get moved out. Just be prepared for the possibility of getting placed in those schools...

Also, Dallas ISD has more empty slots than Ft. Worth - so you can always live in Arlington, Grand Prairie, HEB area.. and commute to either one...

As for taxes and housing - look at the smaller surrounding towns. I live south of Ft. Worth and drive in every day (30miles) - the tax base is lower in some the counties around Tarrant and Dallas.

I've never lived anywhere but Texas, so I think summer is normal... :D
